Today show co-host Sarah Abo revealed her newly diagnosed health battle while live on Thursday.
The TV presenter, 39, was discussing ways to make delicious gluten-free meals with her co-host Karl Stefanovic, 50, and a celebrity nutritionist when she made the revelation.
“I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease. “This is devastating because I love pasta, pizza and all bread,” Sarah explained.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which consumption of gluten (a protein found in bread and wheat products) damages the small intestine.
While not life-threatening in itself, sufferers should follow a strict gluten-free diet to minimize the risks of contracting certain types of cancer, including lymphoma or small intestine cancer.
Sarah told celebrity nutritionist Dr Joanna McMillan that she was heartbroken because she could no longer eat her favorite foods.

Dr. McMillan told Sarah that she will still be able to enjoy a tasty and varied diet, as long as she does her research ahead of time.
