A tourist couple made a giant coat with extra-large pockets so they could “carry” their 30 kilos of luggage on a flight.

Joshua Pieters and his friend Archie Manners set out to bring everything they needed for their trip to avoid paying up to £300 in extra fees.

They tested their creation on a Ryanair flight from London Luton Airport to Portugal in June.

Joshua, 30, had a coat tailored to add “heavy duty” pockets so he could fill them with everything that would normally go in his suitcase, including a travel kettle and even a portable sofa.

Meanwhile, Archie Manners, 31, pitched a portable tent so he could have his “accommodation” with him when he landed.

YouTuber Joshua’s coat managed to carry a variety of vacation essentials, including tea bags, shorts and underwear, a beach ball, a chewable toothbrush, a fork, shampoo and conditioner.

Despite some “strange looks”, the footage shows how the content creators miraculously managed to get through security before boarding the plane and landing happily in Portugal.

Although she noted that the coat was too bulky to wear on the plane seat, so she had to store it in the overhead bin.

Joshua says they saved £59.99 on baggage costs each way, as well as a £120 return surcharge for exceeding the usual baggage weight limit.

The couple posted a full video on their shared YouTube account (Josh and Archie) and received 17,000 views in 24 hours. Joshua also shared the video on his X account (@joshua_pieters) where it has been viewed more than 23,000 times.

In the video, they dubbed the creation the ‘Josh Coat’, revealing it was designed in Mayfair by Archie’s tailor.

The pair were also able to successfully transform Archie’s Nike ISPAs. Poncho ‘Metamorph’ in the form of a beach tent. However, they were disappointed to discover that it was a “day tent,” meaning it didn’t actually have a door.

Joshua, from London, said: “It’s a question everyone has always had: ‘Can I use my luggage?’ or ‘Can I fill my pockets with my luggage instead of paying for a suitcase?'”

We always see flights advertised as very cheap but we always end up spending a lot more money.

‘We wanted to explore the question of whether it was actually possible to take a cheap flight for the advertised price.

‘At the airport we got some strange looks. We were a bit nervous. When we went through security, we thought, “This might not work.”

When they arrived, Joshua commented:

When they arrived, Joshua said: “We were relieved to be on holiday. It was summer and we were able to enjoy the beauty of Portugal.”

‘It was one of those things where we knew it had to work because we weren’t technically breaking any of the rules, but we definitely felt like we were doing something wrong.

‘The coat was made of a denim-like material, it was very sturdy as the pockets had to be really strong (to hold everything).

‘A lot of people were asking where they could buy the coat because they wanted to try it on too.
