A sex cult killer has been sentenced to death for the 2017 murder of a Nebraska woman he strangled and then cut into 14 pieces after luring her on Tinder.
Aubrey Trail, 54, and his girlfriend Bailey Boswell, 25, were both convicted of first degree murder in the brutal murder and mutilation of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe.
The pair enticed her into the dating app Tinder and wanted her to participate in their lifestyle of antique dealers and group sex scams.
Trail said Lofe was “paniced” and worried she would go to authorities, so he killed her with an electrical cord.
“I had no doubts that she would tell people if I let her go,” said Trail, who was handcuffed, dressed in orange prison uniform and confined to a wheelchair throughout the sentencing.
The couple then cut her body into 14 different pieces. Before going on a date, Lofe posted an excited selfie on Snapchat.
Trail attempted to commit suicide in custody by slitting his own throat, but was unsuccessful.
Aubrey Trail, 54, was sentenced to death on Wednesday for the 2017 murder of Sydney Loofe, a young woman he lured on Tinder.
He was sentenced to death on Wednesday after telling a court in Omaha that he “didn’t care” what punishment he received.
The last time anyone heard from Sydney Loofe was on Nov. 15 when she posted a photo of herself on Snapchat with the caption: ‘Ready for my date’
He did not apologize to the victim’s family and said it would be an “insult” to do so. He also echoed previous claims that Boswell is innocent and did not participate in the murder.
She has not yet been convicted, but she also faces the death penalty, and if she does, she would become Nebraska’s first female death row inmate.
At his 2019 trial, three women testified about how Trail would lure women into his sex cult via the dating app and convince them that he was a vampire who could fly and read minds.
The women said they were all recruited through Boswell’s Tinder account between July and November 2017.
They described how Trail got them to call him “Daddy” and how they had group sex with him, Boswell, and other women.
The women said Trail called Boswell the “witch queen.”
A woman testified that Trail had a group of witches and that in order to become one of them, she had to kill someone and “breathe their last breath,” the Omaha Herald reports.
She would gain more “powers” if the killed person was tortured hours beforehand, the woman testified.
Trail’s girlfriend Bailey Boswell, 27, is awaiting conviction for her role in the murder. She and Trail recruited women through Tinder to join their sex cult where they would call him “Daddy” and her a “Witch”
The woman described taking Trail and Boswell to a Walmart to run errands. She said they asked her if she was ready for her first “kill.”
The woman said a potential Tinder date popped up, but they ended up leaving her at the grocery store, and Trail later said they’d “save her for another time.”
“It all sounded like it was real, very convincing,” she told the court.
The woman said she left the group before Lofe was killed. The woman said Trail and Boswell threatened to kill her family if she told anyone what had happened.
Another woman testified that Trail and Boswell made her follow strict rules, including calling every three hours to let them know where she was.
She was also not allowed to wear clothes in Trail’s house.
The woman told the court she was punished if she broke the rules, including once where he strangled her with a belt and another where he hit her on the head more than 10 times.
Loofe was found dead near Edgar, southwest of Omaha, in December 2017, about a month after she went missing when she failed to return from a Tinder date with Trail’s girlfriend.
She testified that Trail and Boswell often talked about killing and torturing other victims because they needed to strengthen their powers.
They are said to have talked about cutting people’s eyelids out, scalping them, cutting holes in people during sex, pouring acid over them and setting them on fire.
She said Trail and Boswell had a murder bag – which they called “Bailey’s murder bag” – containing a sauna suit, a hammer and pliers.
Trail, testified at trial, attempted suicide in custody by slitting his own throat
The woman said she had initially agreed to participate in a murder. She also left the group before Lofe was killed.
Another part of getting involved with Trail’s sex cult was helping the couple scam others by buying and selling antiques.
The third woman testified that she was only interested in the antique side of it and was never interested in having sex with the couple.
She said she never believed Trail when he talked about vampires and witches, but testified that they spoke regularly about killing and torturing.
Trail hasn’t been in court to listen to testimonies since last week when he cut his neck and fell from his wheelchair during a hearing.
He was caught on camera yelling, “Bailey is innocent, and I curse you all,” just seconds before wiping something over his neck.
Officers were filmed rushing to help as Trail lay bleeding on the ground.
It’s not clear how seriously Trail was injured by the judge who ordered the jury to return to hear testimony. His lawyer said he needed stitches but was released from a hospital.
Authorities said he had suffered a stroke and two heart attacks since his arrest.
The last time anyone heard from Lofe was on November 15 when she posted a photo of herself on Snapchat with the caption, “Ready for my date.”
She was reported missing by her mother the next day when she failed to show up for her cashier job at the Menards hardware store in Lincoln.
Her dismembered body was found a month later in garbage bags dumped in a field.
