Tina Turner’s hometown of Brownsville, Tennessee will install a statue in memory of the late singer’s accomplishments

A memorial to Tina Turner is currently being planned by her hometown local government in Brownsville, Tennessee.

City Mayor Bill Rawls Jr. recently spoke with TMZ and said he intended to have a statue of the late hitman installed in her memory and had already secured the support of local leaders.

The statue of Turner, who died aged 83 earlier this week, is believed to be located at Brownsville’s Heritage Park, located not far from Carver High School, which she attended as a teenager.

Mayor Rawls also provided a statement to the outlet to talk about what the project would mean for residents of Brownsville.

“When Tina walked on stage, she owned it. We want this statue to represent that passion,” he said.

He then briefly discussed the impact the late hitmaker had on the people of her hometown.

“Tina was an inspiration to the whole world… She showed the people of Brownsville, no matter where you start, you own your story about where you end up,” he said.

The Tina Turner Museum, dedicated to her life and work, is also located in Brownsville.

Mayor Rawls did not provide a timeline or an expected installation date for the memorial.

Turner died Wednesday at her home near Zurich, Switzerland.

The performer, who was battling various ailments at the time of her death, succumbed to natural causes.

The hitmaker’s publicist, Bernard Doherty, issued a statement to express that the singer’s impact on the music industry would be lasting.

“With her, the world loses a music legend and role model,” he said via The Independent.

Turner spoke to The Guardian just a month before her passing and discussed how she would like to be remembered.

She said she wanted her fans to think of her as the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. As the woman who showed other women that it’s okay to strive for success on your own terms.

The late composer also opened up about growing old and staying optimistic in her later years.

“It’s the complete adventure of life and I embrace and accept each day with what it brings,” she said.
