Tim Minchin shocked the crowd at his Sydney show on Friday night after making a tragic personal announcement on stage.
“My mother passed away yesterday,” Tim told the stunned audience.
The British-born Australian comedian, 48, had shared several stories about his mother and performed various songs he wrote about her during the show.
During one of his stories, Tim revealed that his mother Ros was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2020.
He received a standing ovation at the end of the show before making a devastating announcement.

He said he decided to continue with the show despite the family tragedy ahead of an emotional performance for White Wine in the Sun.
He then ended the show by asking the audience to help him sing the last song of the evening, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.
Many audience members praised Tim for sharing such a candid confession.
“Fifth time seeing Tim Minchin tonight. Absolutely incredible show without a doubt at its best! A very moving end to the evening,” one person wrote on X.
