Tim McGraw says his wife Faith Hill helped him change his life and get sober after he was caught drinking at 8 a.m. before waking their children.

In an essay for EsquireMcGraw, 54, recalled being “scared” after taking a “big shot” from their liquor cabinet, despite having to wake their children not long after.

The country star, who sobered up in 2008, said the moment served as a wake-up call.

“I remember a time when I got out of bed and went to the liquor cabinet and at eight in the morning had a big shot and thought, I have to wake the kids up,” he shouted.

“I went straight to my wife and said, ‘Here I am.’ I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life.’

Faith has been married to Tim since 1996 and the couple have three children together: Grace, Maggie and Audrey.
