“Tick-tock, tick-tock”, makes the clock on TikTok: How long until profile pictures are created with AI? (Image source: Pixabay).
Video platform TikTok is planning to introduce AI-generated profile pictures (like theverge.com and heise.de have reported). That’s according to a Twitter post by social media consultant Matt Navarra (see below).

How do the AI profile pictures work on TikTok?
The video posted by Navarra demonstrates what the AI-powered feature will look like on TikTok soon – and explains how it all works.
- Step 1: Uploading your own profile pictures: It will be necessary to upload at least three but no more than ten portraits of yourself.
- Step 2: Choose a style: Before creating the actual avatars, users can choose from two to five character styles.
- Step 3: The avatar is generated: Based on your photos, the AI creates up to 30 stylized avatars – all of which you can download.
What else is worth knowing about the AI feature?
According to Navarra, there will be one major limitation – because: The AI-supported avatar generator will only be usable once a day.
It is not yet known when the function will actually be available – be it nationwide or internationally.
AI-generated avatars are, also in the Tiktok cosmos, by third-party apps like Lens now common practice. What is new, however, is when the new function allows AI-generated profile pictures to be created directly on the Tiktok platform itself.
