Tiger Woods and his 15-year-old son Charlie lost a playoff to Bernhard Langer and his son Jason in the PNC Championship on Sunday.
Bernhard, 67, sank the winning putt to defeat Tiger and Charlie in Florida, but the duo the public desperately wanted to emerge victorious still had a lot to be positive about.
‘It was incredible, nobody made a mistake today. “It’s the most fun I’ve ever had,” Charlie said.
Woods underwent a sixth back surgery in September and, speaking on Friday, was keen to downplay any hope anyone had that he and Charlie could be the winners on Sunday night. But for so long Sunday it seemed like it was written in the stars.
Earlier in the day, Charlie recorded his first hole-in-one on the par-3 fourth hole, sparking wild celebrations.
The pair were already among the tournament leaders when the teenager stepped up to hit his tee shot.
Incredibly, it landed a few feet in front of the hole and then bounced back down into the cup, much to Charlie’s own surprise.
Back on the fourth tee, he looked around in shock and asked if the ball had gone in. When they said yes, daddy Tiger was the first to arrive to congratulate him.
The famous couple then shared a bear hug on the tee, and Tiger seemed delighted by his son’s achievement.
“That was one of the highlights we’ve ever had,” Tiger said. ‘Before that he made his first eagle. It was a dream stretch of two holes. Like Charlie said, no one made a mistake today.
As for his overall golfing health, Woods tried to calm the hype because of how promising he seemed.
“I’m nowhere near competitive shape, I’m a great sparring partner,” Woods said.
Shortly after hugging his dad and celebrating his success, superstar dad Tiger dampened Charlie’s spirits with a joke, and a hilarious clip of the moment quickly went viral.
Just off the fourth green, when Charlie had picked up his ball from the hole, Tiger can be heard telling him, “You’re buying for everyone here.”
In response, Charlie replies: “I’m not buying, I’m broke…” before Tiger adds: “You’re buying.” You have to buy. That’s the protocol for making a hole in one.
Charlie defiantly repeats, “I’m broke,” before Tiger twists the knife and says, “I’ll turn you over, buddy.”
Tiger also had his daughter, Sam, caddy on Sunday. And despite finishing in second place, it promises to be a great night in the clubhouse for the Woods family, as long as Charlie serves the drinks.
