A week after saying he was unsure when he would be able to return to competitive golf, Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will participate in the PNC Championship later this month alongside his son Charlie.
“I am very excited to return to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie,” Woods said in a statement. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you’re surrounded by friends and family.”
Woods withdrew from last weekend’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, benefiting his foundation as he is still rehabilitating his back following microdecompression surgery in September.
The PNC Championship, scheduled for December 21-22 in Orlando, is a much more relaxed event with 20 two-player teams participating in a 36-hole battle featuring major champions and family members. Woods and his son have played together every year since 2020, including a second-place finish in the 2021 event.
Charlie Woods, 15, qualified for the US Junior Amateur this year and tied for 29th at the Florida Class 1A High School Boys State Championship in November. His school, The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, finished second in the team competition.
Among those participating in the PNC Championship with their children are John Daly, Nick Faldo, Justin Leonard, Vijah Singh, Lee Trevino and Padraig Harrington. LPGA star Nelly Korda will play with her father, Petr, winner of the 1998 Australian Open.
