Halle Bailey, 23, opened up about her secret pregnancy and why she decided to make the arrival of her son Halo public until after his birth in early January while attending the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards in Los Angeles.

Halle Bailey surprised fans when she revealed that she and her boyfriend DDG had welcomed their son Halo into their family earlier in the year.

Now, just over a couple of months later, the singer and actress opened up about her pregnancy and why she decided to keep it a secret until after he was born in early January.

She did so while on stage receiving the Essence Black Woman In Hollywood award during the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 7.

‘What was one of the highlights of my life and, to be honest, also one of the biggest challenges, cannot be compared to the greatest joy of my life. And that was becoming a mother to my perfect little angel Halo,” she said in a video that is currently going viral on X (formerly known as Twitter).

She continued: ‘These lessons, some difficult ones, that I have shared with you today, brought me to a place of protection. There was no way I was going to share the greatest joy in my world with anyone.

Bailey went on to say: ‘Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing and I was under no obligation to expose him, myself or my family to that unwavering spotlight,’ which earned a standing ovation of cheers from the live audience.

As an added bonus, her sister and bandmate Chloe Bailey was on hand to walk the red carpet with Halle and then help present her with the award on stage.

The new mother has been in a relationship with YouTuber, DDG (born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.), 26, since December 2021, and appears in his videos on occasion.

Humbled and grateful, Halle Bailey took to her Instagram page to reflect on receiving the award.

‘Today I felt like a princess. “It was an honor to receive the Essence Black Woman Award in Hollywood and to be uplifted by so many women who have paved the way for me to be here today is an incredibly special feeling,” she wrote in the caption.

‘Thanks to my sister @chloebailey for giving me this award, I was a mess. I am also very grateful to my brothers @skiwithaneye and @bransonbailey_ for saying such beautiful words about our journey as a family and how we got here. as well as rob marshall, @tlabarbe and @deoncole for providing such special words about the trip. “I feel incredibly honored and grateful that I will never forget today.”

Chloe, 25, and Halle, both natives of Mableton, Georgia, first gained recognition as the musical duo Chloe x Hall.

The sisters initially acted in minor roles before moving from their hometown to Los Angeles in 2012.
