The defending champion and world number one, Ronnie O’Sullivan, surprisingly failed in the quarter-finals of the Snooker World Championships at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield.
The Englishman lost 10:13 against the Belgian challenger Luca Brecel on Wednesday after leading 10:6 due to a total slump.
O’Sullivan (47), a seven-time world champion nicknamed “The Rocket”, seemed to be comfortably ahead before the last session, but then completely lost the thread.
Brecel won seven frames in a row and advanced to the semifinals. The Scotsman Anthony McGill (Scotland) or Si Jiahui from China await him there.
