Heather shared impressive before and after images on Facebook, revealing that she used Kmart gray tablecloths to restore the look and functionality of her old sofa.

“So the ‘leather’ sofa started to flake so badly, making the sofa unusable,” Heather wrote online.

“Kmart tablecloths and a staple gun and we got off the couch for a few more years!”

In the comments, Heather said she removed as much of the original flaky faux leather as she could before stapling the new material over it.

“The cushions were stuck to the sofa, so I stapled underneath and through behind the cushions,” she said.

‘The cushions are not found separately, but look like one long cushion in a finished sofa.’

After 72 hours, the post went viral on social media and was ‘liked’ by more than 18,000 people who were impressed by the transformation.

‘Looks cool! Well done, you saved over $2,000 on a new lounge,” one wrote.

“Wow, that’s absolutely amazing!” another said, a third added: ‘What a clever transformation! I love that you turned it into a new piece of furniture instead of throwing it away and buying something new!’

The idea inspired hundreds of people who were about to throw away their old couches.
