Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s divorce was the most devastating celebrity split for Britons, a survey has found.

Some 17 per cent of respondents said they were upset when rumours began circulating in 2004 about a romance between Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr And Mrs Smith.

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s 1998 split came in second, according to research agency Perspectus Global, with 16 percent of people heartbroken.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s 2001 breakup came in third with 15 percent.

Love Island stars Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury announced their split earlier this month, shocking fans of the ITV show and 8 per cent of those polled.

Meanwhile, the split of former This Morning presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes in May was voted the most devastating of the year, garnering 12 per cent of the vote.
