Three people were arrested for murdering three best friends who were slaughtered on the way to the nighttime fishing spot, police said Wednesday.
Damion Tillman, 23; Keven Springfield, 30; and Brandon Rollins, 27, all died in the Friday night massacre. They were found by Brandon’s father Cyril Rollins, who called for help just before his death. Sheriff Judd said the shock when he saw his son die next to his two friends sent Cyril to the hospital later in the day.
The three friends who were beaten and shot while fishing in Florida overnight were not killed in a bad drug deal, police said Monday.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd raised the reward for information to $ 30,000: “We haven’t seen clear signs of a bad drug deal. We still don’t know why the murder happened. ‘
Tillman had traveled alone to the site, police said. His car was found facing south; the vehicle with Rollins and Springfield was next to it, north-centered in the middle of the road, suggesting they were parked so they could talk to each other.
Sheriff Judd said, “Was it as simple as the three boys … blocking the road and making someone angry? Or did someone follow Damion down there and shoot him and then Keven and Brandon drive up. ‘
Police confirmed that they are not disclosing certain details of what Cyril Rollins said to his son Brandon in the moments before his death. They also have not released details of whether the bodies were found in their cars or on the road.
But Sheriff Judd did acknowledge that the police are “banking” to increase the reward for information about the attack from $ 5,000 to $ 30,000 to help the case. He said that the police received “more than” 100 tips, but no arrests were made.
Police also believe there is more than one murderer, Sheriff Judd said Monday afternoon. He added, “Looking at the crime scene and looking at what we saw gives us reason to believe it was more than one suspect.”
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd spoke at a news conference on the matter Monday afternoon, where he raised the reward for information to $ 30,000
Sheriff Judd said in an earlier interview Monday that the three men may have been “trapped in” by cars. He told WPCV: “At the moment we don’t know … whether someone marked them and packed them in the middle of the road.
“We don’t know what happened … whether or not they met some suspects who didn’t like talking on the way.”
Judd added, “As if someone shut them off and stopped them. It was just a terrible event. Think about it – three best friends do what they love most and that’s to go fishing. And this is a way out in the province.
‘[Rollins’ dad] is not doing well at all. In fact, later in the day he also had to go to the hospital. You can imagine the terrible shock of hearing your son say “help” on the cell phone. You run to him, you see his two best friends get shot and he gets shot and really takes his last breath. ‘
Records show that both Keven Springfield and Brandon Rollins have had previous arrests; Brandon for burglary and traffic offenses, Springfield for theft, burglary and home battery.

Of the killers, Sheriff Judd added, “Think about this – they’ve already killed three people. Can your kids be next? There is no indication that this was a bad deal. If we knew [names], we would have them in custody. ‘
He added Monday afternoon, “We don’t believe they are looking for people, but we also know for some reason that someone else crosses their path and angers them that they have nothing left to lose.
“Usually when I’m here and talking about murders, I’m talking about a bad domestic relationship or drugs, and that doesn’t seem to be the case at this stage of the investigation.
“This doesn’t look like a failed drug deal, we don’t have any evidence of that. It doesn’t seem to be a domestic incident. We do not know the reason at this stage. ‘

Tillman had traveled alone to the site, police said. His car was found facing south; the vehicle with Rollins and Springfield was next to it, facing north ‘in the middle of the road’, suggesting they were parked ‘so they could talk to each other’
Police previously said the three men may have been victims of a targeted attack by multiple attackers. Judd admitted that Monday afternoon’s officers still don’t know the motive.
But he said on Saturday, “You’re not just tripping someone out here.” He described the crime scene as ‘the worst I’ve ever seen’.
The three men were fishing in a popular lake in Frostproof, 70 miles south of Orlando in central Florida. Brandon would have been an avid fisherman who went out every other night, according to his mother.
Rollins called his father on Friday around 10 p.m. and only said “help.” The father jumped into his car and went where his son said he was going to fish.
“When he arrived, he noticed that his son Brandon was barely alive and his two friends died,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Brandon has been able to say a few things to his father that we are not disclosing at this time.”
Rollins’ father had left his home without his cell phone, so he returned to a nearby gas station and called 911, the sheriff said. He did not use his son’s phone to make the call, as he “would have found it difficult on the spot,” police said Monday.
“I was so upset last night that I just didn’t know what to do,” said Cyril Rollins, Brandon’s father.
“We have heard some background and they are all busy,” he said WFLA told 8.
“But I left, I went here. When I got there I was looking for my son. It was a mess. I found my son. I held him, he told me what happened, but I was too shocked to know what was going on. ‘
When the authorities came to the scene, all three men were dead.
Three men were killed on Friday night by Lake Streety in Frostproof, Florida
Tillman, left, first traveled to Lake Streety and arrived alone, according to Sheriff Judd. Rollins, on the right, called his father on Friday around 10 p.m. and only said “help.”
Keven Springfield. Sheriff Judd said officers are still trying to find a motive on Monday
“This is a horrifying scene,” said Judd, “I’ve been on many murder scenes in my life, and this is one of the worst I’ve ever been.”
Judd added that the suspect or suspects may have known the men.
“You’re not just tripping here,” he said. “It’s not that there are many people here. As you can see, they are cow pastures and lakes. ‘
Polk Country Sheriff Grady Judd said the ‘horrific’ scene was one of the worst he’d seen
Rollins’ girlfriend Jessica Steenson told WFLA 8 that the sheriff promised to find the killers.
“That he won’t stop until the three boys, my friend and his two best friends, have been served justice,” she said.
“I moved for him from Jacksonville, Florida two years ago, and I shouldn’t and I want justice for him. And I won’t stop until he understands. ‘
Rollins’ mother Dottie Payton said she also wants justice to be done.
“I want it to be served properly and I am sure they will see and see what is going on and that they should come forward,” she said.
