  • The Kansas City police chief confirmed that the condition of the officers is stable

Three Kansas City officers were shot during a standoff as officials warned the city is dangerous for police.

The unidentified officers were serving a search warrant at the 2300 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard around 9:30 p.m. when they were shot while breaking through a door, Chief Stacey Graves told KMBC.

Graves confirmed that the officers had knocked and announced their presence before breaking down the door. They immediately encountered gunfire and fled to transport themselves to the hospital in stable condition.

Mayor Quinton Lucas condemned the shooting while also highlighting the dangers of being an officer in the crime-ridden city.

“We’ve been reminded too many times lately in Kansas City how dangerous police work can be,” Lucas tweeted. “I pray for a full recovery for our three officers who were injured tonight and that all those on duty return home safely to their families.”

The officers are expected to survive their injuries and it is unclear if they punched the suspect before going to hospital.

According to the news outlet, a police standoff occurred following the shooting and no arrests had been made by 2 a.m. EST on Wednesday.
