Three family members were killed and several others injured in an overnight shooting at a California home.

Police were called to a home in Alameda, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, on Wednesday night after a community member reported that her neighbor had been shot.

Upon arrival, Alameda Police Department (APD) officers located the victim.

While clearing the residence, officers discovered several family members suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, including children.

A person of interest is in custody. Police did not immediately provide a motive for the shooting.

APD said in a statement on Facebook that it received a call from an individual who reported that his neighbor had been shot in the 400 block of Kitty Hawk Road in the city of Alameda.

“We are deeply saddened to report that three victims did not survive and other family members are being treated at local hospitals,” police said.

Police said there was no information to suggest there was any threat to the public. An investigation is ongoing.
