Three people have died and five others are in serious condition after a car collided with a utility pole before colliding with a truck on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the accident site on the corner of Arundel Drive and Brisbane Rd just after 12:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Three people reportedly died at the scene and one man was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition The Gold Coast Bulletin.

Queensland Police say the three dead drove east in a black sedan before the vehicle ended up on the wrong side of the road.

A 49-year-old male passenger in the sedan was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Nine patients were reportedly assessed at the scene of the collision, according to Queensland Ambulance spokesman Andrew Flory.
