Almost 80,000 people have flooded the streets of Sydney to undertake the 48th annual City2Surf race.

The 14km race from Sydney's Hyde Park to Bondi Beach saw people from all over the world take part in what has become the funniest race in the world.

Patches of blue skies and temperatures of 12ºC greeted the runners, who met at the starting line on Sunday morning.

Ben St Lawrence was the first to cross the finish line, with Ellie Pashley being the first woman to complete the walk.

St Lawrence, a 36-year-old Australian Olympian, had to run the final meters to beat Australian teammate Liam Adams for his second title.

Thousands of runners completed the race, managing to raise almost $ 5 million for more than 1000 charities.

The superheroes, henchmen, pirates and streakers were among the fun costumes that people adorned for the race.
