David Bailey defines the Swinging Sixties with his iconic black and white depictions of pop stars, models, politicians and royalty.
And now the snapper has to make waves again with his first book of fashion photos dedicated to the 1980s, which will feature many unseen images of the day’s supermodels.
“It’s my first book with my fashion photos,” he tells me. “I don’t know why I’ve never done one, but it took a while to get these together.”
David Bailey will again create a furore with his first book of fashion photos dedicated to the 1980s
Bailey and his team have searched dozens of boxes of negatives and contact sheets stored in his London studio and in his two West Country warehouses, where he has a home.
“I’m writing down the fashion of the decade,” he explains.
‘I haven’t chosen a title yet, but the book will be Jerry Hall, Christy Turlington, [ex-wife] Marie Helvin, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and my [fourth] wife Catherine Bailey (nee Dyer). ‘
The rugged East Ender is known for its insatiable appetite for the opposite sex.
Despite his four marriages and numerous girlfriends, he is still in touch and friends with all of them. “I get along with all my ex-wives,” emphasizes the 83-year-old snapper.

The marriage to his first wife, typist Rosemary Bramble, lasted five years, ending in 1964. He then married French actress Catherine Deneuve in 1965, ending in 1972.
He then married American model Marie Helvin in 1975, who lasted ten years. Bailey has married for 35 years to model Catherine, who is 24 years younger at the age of 59.
They met when she was just 19, during a fashion shoot for Italian Vogue on the Isle of Skye, and they have three children.
“Catherine also gets along with my ex-wives and girlfriends,” adds Bailey. “If someone lives with someone for more than ten months and then spends the rest of their life hating that person, something is wrong.”
His first muse, Jean Shrimpton, reflected in his autobiography Look Again last year: ‘He could come across a little strong at times … He would be in trouble today. But no one objected. Everyone liked him a lot. ‘
It looks like Emilia’s passion is in bloom
Emilia Fox, 46, shared a photo of herself dragging pink dahlias and white cosmos from the trunk of her car
Silent Witness star Emilia Fox, who said goodbye to her partner, talent manager Luc Chaudhary last year, is in the process of channeling her passions elsewhere.
The 46-year-old scion of the acting dynasty – including her father Edward and her cousin Laurence – shared a photo of herself dragging pink dahlias and white cosmos from the trunk of her car in front of her West London home.
Emilia, who wore a matching £ 200 flower top, loves flowers so much that she named her 10-year-old daughter Rose.
“ I’ve always felt that wherever you go, if you have flowers, it will feel like home, ” she says.
The Pursuit Of Love star Lily James, who snuggled up with her co-star Dominic West last year, admits there are similarities between her and her on-screen character, the free-spirited Linda Radlett.
“I relate to her passion and her open heart,” she says. ‘I think people want to be more like Linda. I think she probably would have turned into a groupie and went to parties with Mick Jagger. ‘
Leah comes out of hiding for her TV spot
Paul Weller’s musician daughter Leah admits her performance anxiety is so bad she hides in the bathroom before taking the stage
Modfather Paul Weller’s musician daughter Leah, who sang their co-written single Shades Of Blue on The Jonathan Ross Show last weekend, admits her performance anxiety is so bad that she hides in the bathroom before hitting the stage.
“I’ve tried different therapies, but I find that meditation helps me better manage my anxiety,” says the 28-year-old, whose mother is The Style Council singer Dee C Lee.
‘I also tend to isolate myself a bit for gigs. I sit in the corner of a bathroom to concentrate. ‘
“Royal hunt” plan does not amuse Queen
Boris Johnson’s support for a new national flagship named after Prince Philip won’t cut ice with the Queen if in any way considered a ‘royal yacht’ to replace her beloved Britannia.
Calls for a state yacht to seize post-Brexit business opportunities are gaining momentum, but the concept is not warmly embraced by the monarch.
Her response was described as ‘lukewarm’ in an interview with late parking magnate Sir Donald Gosling, who had offered £ 20 million of his personal fortune to build a new ship.
A friend of Sir Don recalls: ‘HM said the last thing she wanted was to be seen as’ angling’ for something that opponents could claim was just another royal trinket.
And while Philip had initially been enthusiastic about the idea of a ‘floating embassy’ that could be used to provide training and apprenticeships, he said the topic had just become the inevitable political football. ‘
So who’s running over Sir Tim?
When Amanda Eliasch, 60, visited the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she couldn’t help but bow to Sir Tim Rice’s star
Oscar-winning lyricist Sir Tim Rice has clearly left things on good terms with his former lover, Amanda Eliasch.
When the socialite, 60, paid a visit to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, she couldn’t help but bow to his star.
“I bow to you, my friend, Sir Tim Rice,” she wrote with the photo online. “I love this area because you run into your friends, heroes and superstars.”
The songwriter’s star – who turned 2375 at the time – was revealed in 2008, a year after he began a romance with Amanda, the ex-wife of Tory billionaire donor Johan Eliasch.
Award-winning Doctor Who star Sharon D. Clarke has accused BBC makeup artists of being hostile to black actors.
‘It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but it’s huge when you walk in and someone doesn’t know how to handle your hair, looks at you in horror or comes right up to you with a neon palette and wants to throw out yellow and pink on your eyes, ”she says.
‘It’s just,’ Hold on! ‘
