Thomas Tuchel has agreed to become England’s new manager following successful talks with the Football Association.
The German, 51, will permanently replace Gareth Southgate as Three Lions manager, who resigned in the summer after the heartbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain.
He is expected to fly to England this week to complete the paperwork prior to his appointment. The former Chelsea manager is only the third non-English coach of the England men’s team and the first since Fabio Capello resigned in 2012.
A press conference to announce his appointment is expected to be held at Wembley at 1.30pm tomorrow, and will be attended by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.
The FA have been aware of Manchester United’s interest in Tuchel as they consider Erik ten Hag’s position.
Thomas Tuchel, 51, has signed a contract to become the next England manager and is the first non-English manager of the men’s team since 2012.

Losing to Brentford this weekend could have implications for Ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford, with Tuchel expected to be a contender for the United job if the Dutchman is sacked.
But the FA has moved quickly in favor of Tuchel, who emerged as the favorite for the England job due to his title-winning record, which is attractive to the FA.
The FA sounded out several candidates, including Pep Guardiola and Eddie Howe, for the England manager’s job, currently held on an interim basis by Lee Carsley.
However, talks between Tuchel and the FA quickly accelerated today.
Sources have indicated that Anthony Barry could join Tuchel’s coaching staff. Barry currently works with the Portugal national team but has a history of working with Tuchel, joining the German at Chelsea and Bayern.
Tuchel has an impressive resume, winning league titles with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, as well as the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup with Chelsea.
But it will no doubt be seen as a controversial move by the FA due to England’s rivalry with their native Germany.
England captain Harry Kane played under Tuchel at Bayern Munich last season and spoke today about his former boss’ links to the job.
‘I obviously know Thomas well from last year. “Fantastic coach, fantastic person, so I’m sure the guys at the FA will get back to me when they know more about it,” he said.
The fact that Tuchel knows English football from his time at Chelsea and has worked with captain Harry Kane at Bayern Munich is an obvious advantage.
It is understood that he is effectively on gardening leave after leaving his previous job with Bayern, which could have financial implications for the FA, but nothing that could derail the deal.
The German has an impressive CV, having previously won the Champions League when he was Chelsea manager.
England U21 manager Lee Carsley has been in interim charge of the Three Lions since Southgate’s departure.
Tuchel has been out of work since leaving German giants Bayern Munich in May.

Tuchel wants to go back to work and considers the position in England an attractive proposition. The FA declined to comment last night.
It remains to be seen whether Carsley will remain in charge on an interim basis for the November matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
Mail Sport reported on Saturday night that the FA had major reservations about whether Carsley wants the job permanently.
The governing body wanted to review the situation after November’s Nations League matches against Greece and Ireland.
But there have been internal doubts in recent days about Carsley’s appetite for the role following a series of public comments that have been interpreted as the 50-year-old distancing himself from the full-time vacancy.
Carsley had the backing of the FA but the feeling that he was not fully convinced about taking the permanent reins has led the FA to all but rule the former Everton midfielder out of the race and move to make Tuchel his new boss.
Guardiola has been seen as a dream candidate by the governing body, but the FA has received no encouragement from the current Manchester City manager since an initial approach in July.
