Thomas Tuchel has admitted he expects to sign a new contract with Chelsea after leading the club to a sensational Champions League triumph following their 1-0 win against Manchester City in Porto.
Former PSG coach Tuchel has had a transformative effect since moving to Stamford Bridge, leading the team to the top four, leading them to the FA Cup final and now securing European glory on the biggest stage of all of them.
And shortly after the wild parties hailing the final whistle, Tuchel insisted that he is confident that he will be able to put on paper a contract that is expected to last at least until 2023.

His optimistic spirit about extra time may be the result of his first meeting with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The two men shared their first ever meeting on the field at the Estadio do Dragao.
“I’m not even 100 percent sure, but maybe I have a new contract now,” Tuchel said at his press conference. ‘It could be, my manager said something about it, but I don’t know. So let’s check this first.
‘I spoke to the owner on the field now, this was the best time for a first meeting. Or the worst, because from now on it can only get worse. We will speak tomorrow, speak later, speak tomorrow and look forward to this.

‘I can assure him that I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and that I feel absolutely happy, being part of a really ambitious club, a strong part of a strong group. That fits perfectly with my conviction and my passion for football at the moment.
So my wish is to go for more wins, grow as a coach and push the group to the limit on the first day of the next season. We have work to do to close the gap, and this is what it’s all about. And so it will be nice to meet him a little closer.
‘We do have contact but not personally, he immediately knows what is going on from me. But now it is nice to meet him. ‘
Tuchel signed an initial 18-month contract after replacing fired club legend Frank Lampard in January – though the brevity of his deal came as no surprise after Chelsea were forced into several hefty payouts.
Tuchel had first met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich full-time on the field
However, his success in the Champions League underlined his excellent work at Cobham and most of the games he has led to date, and the memorable evening in Portugal is sure to see him rewarded and sustained.
Chelsea defeated City with Kai Havertz just before half time. The playmaker was neatly put through the goal by Mason Mount, and his icy composure saw him dance around Ederson before breaking the deadlock.
City, who shocked supporters and pundits alike after dropping both Fernandinho and Rodri, had to wait at least another year for their first Champions League victory and put in a limp in the final.
Tuchel later admitted that he will have more talks with Abramovich with a new deal in the offing
The occasion marked Tuchel’s third time getting the upper hand of Pep Guardiola this season, and the infamous fiery Blues coach was filmed soaking up the moment by spraying his players with champagne in the dressing room.
A jubilant Joe Cole even insisted after the game that Tuchel will be forever remembered in Chelsea history as one of their ‘greatest managers’.
“The club is bringing in managers, they are firing them,” Cole said live on BT Sport. “There hasn’t been a club in this country that has won more trophies since Roman came in.

‘We thought Tuchel was one of the brightest young managers in football. He enters the folklore of the great managers in the history of this club. ‘
Rio Ferdinand admitted he was fully convinced City would take the trophy to the Etihad, but instead praised Tuchel and the system that saw Chelsea take their dream.
“What an absolute turn of events,” said Ferdinand. “I supported Man City, but Thomas Tuchel came in and gave a tactical masterclass.”
