Ecobee cannot keep its smart home secrets to itself, because how the upcoming video camera, intriguing contact sensor and new premium thermostat are detailed in detail by Dave Zatz from ZatzNotFunny in the past few months. But now hardware retailer Lowe & # 39; s apparently asked Zatz to keep his beer – by publishing a complete product page for the new glass Ecobee Smart Thermostat with voice control on the web.
The page, spotted by one of the tipsters from Zatz, leaves little to the imagination, with practically every new feature that you can expect.
In addition to the previously unveiled glass-covered touchscreen (instead of plastic) and the bundled "SmartSensor" with magnetic base, the new unit now supports 5GHz Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth, various advanced Amazon Alexa functions to handle the built-in voice fill assistant and the ability to act as a speaker for your Spotify music. (However, we will have to see if it is better than the Ecobee4 as a music speaker.)
Interestingly, it seems that Ecobee can use its numbering scheme, because this is simply an "Ecobee Smart Thermostat" instead of an Ecobee5 or Ecobee4 +. If so, it's comparable to Nest, which currently uses the 3rd generation of its Nest Learning Thermostat. And if the prices on the Lowe & # 39; s Canada website are right, then the price is comparable to that of Nest: CAD $ 329. That is probably intentional now that the Ecobee device has a better version, although nowadays both the current Ecobee4 as the third generation Nest in the US can find a lot less nowadays because they have both been on sale for years.
We will let you know what the new Ecobee will cost in the US and when it will be available, when it is officially announced.
