Super mom Helen Glover dedicated her gold medal at the European Championships to her three children after completing a dream return to rowing in Italy on Sunday.
The two-time Olympic champion took a break from the sport after Rio 2016 to start a family and only announced her comeback in January ahead of this summer’s Tokyo Games.
But in her first regatta in nearly five years, Glover won in the women’s pair with Polly Swann and now looks confident that she will live up to her ambition to become the first mom to form a British Olympic rowing team.

Glover, mother of two-year-old Logan and one-year-old twins Kit and Bo, posted a photo of her gold medal on social media afterwards, writing: ‘Logie bear, little Kit, my Bo. This is for you.’
The 34-year-old added: ‘I asked my mom if she could make a video of the kids watching, but I don’t know if she managed with the technology and three little ones!
‘I was thinking today,’ Will I make it on the track? ‘, Which sucks because I do it every day during training. But something about racing brings those doubts to the surface.
Glover said the victory was for her children, two-year-old Logan and one-year-old twins Kit and Bo
‘Now I’ve squashed them all and can go on and be the athlete I know that I am. The next time I’m at the start of a final, almost everything will be cleared. ‘
Glover and Swann, a licensed physician who worked at a hospital in Scotland during the coronavirus pandemic last year, qualified for the women’s couple’s final in Varese by winning their preliminary round on Friday.
And they followed their triumph together at the 2013 World Championships and the 2014 Europeans on Sunday by holding off a late challenge from Romania, with Spain finishing third.
Swann said the success was ‘epic’ but is not certain she will be linked with Glover in Tokyo
Swann, 32, said, ‘It feels pretty epic. I don’t think we came here expecting to win, especially now that Helen returns and it’s been 2015 since we last raced together. ‘
It’s not guaranteed that the pair will stick together for Tokyo – but Swann added, ‘Fortunately, we don’t have to make the decisions. We’ll see what the selectors will decide.
There is an air of mystery when Helen returns and is clearly performing at such a high level so early on. We’ll see what our best options are. For now, we’re happy to be in the pair. ‘
