Third man charged over alleged murder of Sydney crime figure

“We allege that he was part of a cunning and painstakingly planned assassination plot.”

Doherty also said the accused man fled abroad shortly after being questioned by police in May, before returning on October 31.

“So the message is, whether you go abroad or go to the highway or you stay where you are, the police will still find you,” he said.

The 37-year-old – Jason Laria – was charged with complicity in the murder of Ahmad. He was also charged with unrelated drug supply and criminal gang crimes.

The 49-year-old was charged with complicity before and after the murder.

Both men also remain in court.

The arrests are part of an operation by Task Force Erebus, which is investigating 14 fatal shootings and criminal activity by organized crime networks in Sydney.

“We are relentless in pursuit of all people involved in organized crime. We are looking at all the people associated with these murders, and we will continue to do so,” Doherty said.

“Hopefully this will give the public some encouragement that we are doing our best regarding these killings. I think this [arrest] show that we have been.”
