Thinking about where it all went wrong: Lion seems to be going through an existential crisis (but, like a human, has a drink to cheer himself up!)
A lion has been captured pondering where it all went wrong – before turning to cheer himself up – in a series of striking photos taken in South Africa.
The male adolescent with the thousand-meter gaze seemed filled with fear as he lay next to the waterhole in Greater Kruger National Park.
Fortunately, however, he was able to emerge from the melancholic pool of despair and instead drown his grief in the nearby water, which seemed more than a little cheerful after a sip.
The images were taken by Kruger guide Moosa Varachia, who said that as a young lion, who would soon leave his family to strike alone, he might begin to feel the weight of the world on his shoulders.
‘Perhaps this lion was feeling sad, because soon he would have to leave his pride and take care of himself, ”Mr Varachia said. ‘The lion could certainly have gone through a life crisis by leaving his home and going into the real world. ‘
