Jurgen Klopp attacked Manchester United on Sunday by claiming that title rivals Arsenal can expect a win at Old Trafford if Erik ten Hag’s side play as poorly as they did against Liverpool.

Mo Salah’s late penalty salvaged a 2-2 draw in a thrilling clash, but they were still two points short of Arsenal and Manchester City in a match Liverpool dominated against their old rivals.

United will face Arsenal at Old Trafford in their final home game on the penultimate weekend of the season next month, and Klopp is not expecting any favors on the evidence of Sunday’s match.

“Arsenal are a good football team,” said the Liverpool manager. “If they (United) play like today, Arsenal will win the game, I’m 100 per cent sure.” I’m sorry to say that.’

Three weeks after letting United escape in a stunning 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Old Trafford, Liverpool outshot their opponents 15-0 in the first half but had just one goal from Luis Díaz to demonstrate it.

United scored on their first attempt at goal from the halfway line when a horribly misplaced pass from Jarell Quansah allowed Bruno Fernandes to score with an empty net. Kobbie Mainoo put United ahead with a spectacular shot before Salah equalized from the penalty spot.

Klopp added: “In all the times since I’ve been here, I don’t think we’ve dominated United like we did in these two games.

“We should have won the game, that’s clear.” Being 1-0 up at Old Trafford and having a shooting stat of 15-0 is incredible. There were no shots in the first half and 1-0 is the lowest we could hope for.

‘Very well done by Bruno. I have the bad news that it will not be his (Quansah’s) last mistake. He handled it extremely well.

“Then the stadium approached and we needed a few minutes to calm down again and they scored another goal.”

Liverpool started the weekend at the top of the table, but are now second behind Arsenal on goal difference and only lead City by one point.

However, Klopp refuses to panic, adding: “The entire Liverpool community stay calm.” We are where we are and we continue to try properly. Would I like us to have a 10 point difference? Of course. We take what we have and move forward.

“Until yesterday we were face to face and now it’s Arsenal. We want to be there after 38 games, the last matchday. It’s better to be there and have some distance.

“The team that ultimately wins the league should deserve it. We’re in the race and I’m absolutely fine with that.”

Captain Virgil van Dijk said the draw “feels like a loss” due to Liverpool’s chances

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk lamented Liverpool’s missed opportunities.

“It feels like a loss, again it’s our fault,” Van Dijk said. “We had a lot of opportunities and we should finish the game.

“Unfortunately, the individual error occurred with the tie and we had a lot of time to correct it, but we were in a hurry.”
