There’s a chance that Resident Evil Village will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One, as well as to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
During a Tokyo Game Show presentationGame producer Tsuyoshi Kanda said that “while Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for the next generation of consoles and PC,” the team “is exploring to deliver the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.”
Kanda stressed that Capcom “can’t make any promise,” but added “we’ll do our best.” It has been said that more information on these and other aspects of Resident Evil Village will come sometime in the future.
Keep cross gene?
With its somewhat nebulous 2021 release window, it’s possible Resident Evil Village will be moving to the next generation of consoles relatively early in their lifecycle. This may be one of the reasons Capcom is considering the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game, as it means that fans of the series who haven’t transitioned to the next generation in the early stages won’t be left behind.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, recently announced that some flagship PS5 titles “designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features” would also be coming to PS4, acknowledging that the PS4 community will be several times would switch to PS5 “.”
In addition to the Tokyo Game Show presentation, Capcom also released a new developer insights video for Resident Evil Village, featuring interviews with director Morimasa Sato, art director Tomonori Takano and producer Peter Fabiano.
Over the course of this video, the team provides some insight into the decision-making processes behind the development of Resident Evil Village, such as using a picture book motif in the game and choosing to continue Ethan Winters’ story after the events of Resident. Evil 7.
There are also very brief glimpses of the game in action spread throughout the video, showing the first person perspective and some of the environments that can be explored. According to director Morimasa Sato, there is a lot of “emphasis on making the game play like you would if you were there in real life”.
