World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler was detained in handcuffs by police outside Valhalla Golf Club in a bizarre misunderstanding this morning, a new report claims.
In notable footage from Friday morning, Scheffler was seen being led to a police car in handcuffs as he attempted to enter the club before his second round on Friday.
The incident occurred when the second round of the PGA Championship was delayed Friday due to a fatal crash near the club.
A pedestrian was hit and killed by a bus outside the golf course. Scheffler was not involved in the accident, but it caused a traffic jam around Valhalla.
The world number one found himself on the wrong side of law enforcement when officers reportedly asked him to stop his vehicle, only for Scheffler to continue driving for 10 to 20 metres.
Scottie Scheffler was detained in handcuffs by police outside Valhalla Golf Club on Friday.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, who was an eyewitness to the saga, the situation became emotional.very quickly, very quickly, very aggressively.” Scheffler was put into a patrol car, still handcuffed, before being released.
Darlington was entering the club around the same time and claims that at one point Scheffler looked at him and said, ‘PPlease help.’
It is alleged that Scheffler did not know that the person he was dealing with was a police officer.
