A woman who was shot by her boyfriend did not know that she had had a bullet in her skull for two months.
Nicole Gordon, 42, from Atlanta, Georgia, suffered severe headache, memory loss, and communication problems after being shot in 2017.
Only after a family member finally convinced her to go to the Atlanta Medical Center did doctors discover that there was a bullet in the base of her skull.
Her now ex-boyfriend Jerrontae Cain, 39, has finally been convicted of severe assault with a deadly weapon, heavy battery, possession of a firearm while committing a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal.
Cain will be in prison for 25 years and five on trial.
Mrs. Gordon could not remember being shot, but she remembered that she had a fight with Cain about a month before going to the hospital.
She told doctors that they were arguing in her car when the driver's window hit and fell on her and knocked her unconscious.
It was only after a family member finally convinced her to go to the Atlanta Medical Center (photo) when she complained about migraine that doctors discovered that there was a bullet in the base of her skull
The couple then went to Cain's house, where they treated a cut on the back of Gordon's head that she believed was caused by broken glass.
Cain initially told the police that the car had crashed and that was why the window was broken.
Cain (photo) had already been arrested 13 times and was sentenced in 2010 for a sexual battery
But doctors refuted his statement and discovered that Gordon's injuries were the result of a shot in the head.
An order was issued for his arrest, but he was only found in January of this year when he was discovered while hiding in the attic.
He had been arrested 13 times before and was sentenced in 2010 for a sexual battery.
Mrs. Gordon's friends testified during the trial that Cain had abused her in the past and covered her with bruises.
Doctors have not succeeded in removing the bullet from Mrs. Gordon's skull because they fear they will die if they do.
