An actor whose character was shot in TV hit The Wire nearly suffered the same fate after being hit by a bullet in Baltimore, where the HBO show took place.

Chris Clanton, 35, was punched in the ear on April 29 at 4100 block of Eierman Avenue in the Northeast District of the City of Maryland and was left with fragments of the projectile in his ear.

Clanton, who played Savino Bratton on The Wire, fell on the ongoing Baltimore crime crisis and told Fox45, ‘I’m p * ssed. I am p * ssed because it is not necessary.

My son was not far from this incident. He was nearby. Fortunately, he did not see what was happening.

“Something needs to change,” said the Baltimore resident. “I’m from here, I love it.”

Clanton does not believe he was the target of the shooting, which is being investigated by Baltimore Metro PD.

Police said the incident is still under investigation but received no updates a week after the shooting.

Clanton spent a year in prison in 2006 after admitting to dealing drugs, and was stabbed in the butt at a party in Baltimore in 2008. The Baltimore Sun reported.

He escaped police custody during a hospital visit in September 2019 after being taken there following an unspecified court order against him, the Sun said.

But Clanton insists he has since changed his ways – now speaking out against crime in Baltimore, the United States’ fourth most dangerous city by 2020.

Due to the city’s reputation, it was chosen as the setting for The Wire, HBO’s flagship crime drama that ran between 2002 and 2008.

It told the story of the city’s police and drug dealers, was hailed as one of the greatest dramas of all time, and saw Clanton’s character Savino Bratton shot dead by gunman Omar Little, played by Michael K Williams.

Baltimore recorded 335 homicides in 2020, with more than 300 homicides in the city annually as of 2015.

It had a violent crime rate of 1,833.4 incidents per 100,000 people and murder rates of 58.3 per 100,000 people in 2019.

Both are many times more than the national average of 379 violent crimes per 100,000 people and five homicides per 100,000 US citizens, according to the FBI date.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, left, suggested reducing the Baltimore Metro PD Police Department, despite the increasing crime in the city. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan destroyed the plan

The city of Maryland registered 933 assaults per 100,000 people in 2019, nearly four times the US national average of 250 per 100,000 people.

Baltimore accounted for 39 percent of all reported violent crimes in Maryland in 2019, despite living there just over 10 percent of the state’s six million residents. USA TODAY reported.

It was the fourth most dangerous city in the country by FBI statistics, but Baltimore has a much higher murder rate than the most dangerous city of Detroit, which killed 275 people in 2019.

Baltimore’s murder rate of 58.3 murders per 100,000 people was America’s second highest in 2020, after St. Louis, Missouri, where 64.54 murders per 100,000 residents had occurred.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott have been at war with each other since Scott announced plans to reduce the size of the city’s police force despite the continued increase in crime.

Scott, who has increased Baltimore’s police budget by five percent – or $ 28 million – for fiscal year 2022 – claims his plan is “ about reimagining what public safety in Baltimore is. ”

But Governor Hogan said he was “shocked and outraged” by the proposed cuts, adding, “Thousands of people have been murdered in the city of Baltimore, and it’s unscrupulous, but no one wants to do anything about it.”

Crime has increased in the city since April 2015, when Freddy Gray, a black 25-year-old, died in police custody after being arrested for carrying a knife.

Six Baltimore Metropolitan Police Officers were charged with Gray’s murder, but were later cleared of all charges they faced.

City leaders say the incident led to a loss of faith in the police in the city, and Baltimore police also became timid when it came to tackling crime.
