And Tsehay Hawkins, 18, says she is proud to defy gender stereotypes with her costume choice.

The current Yellow Wiggle is the first female cast member to wear trousers instead of a skirt on stage.

Speaking to Yahoo LifestyleShe said the opportunity to challenge stereotypes with her wardrobe choice was “great.”

“I think wearing pants means that both boys and girls can relate to them. Boys can also wear skirts if they want. We definitely have boys who come to shows in skirts, which is also beautiful,” she told the publication.

“But I think it’s great to see little girls wearing flared trousers. It breaks the stereotype that girls always have to wear dresses or skirts.”

Tsehay added that breaking stereotypes was not her priority when choosing what to wear, admitting that she was more of a “pants girl” type.

“I don’t think that really influenced when I decided to use it, but once I did, I realized the impact it had,” she said.
