Lucero Guadalupe Sánchez López, 29, a former legislator in Guzman's home state of Sinaloa, told a jury from New York that the relationship mixed the fun and things in a way that caused discomfort.

"I am confused to this day because I thought we were in a romantic relationship," she said when Guzman's wife had been in court for more than a decade.

At another moment she said: & # 39; Sometimes I loved him and sometimes I did not.

During the testimony, Coronel grinned like an emotional Sánchez who collapsed and cried and laughed when the witness left the courtroom with her lapel microphone still sobbing, according to the New York Post.

Outside the court Coronel beamed as she left the hearing, flashing smiles for photographers.

Sanchez, once the nickname & # 39; Chapodiputada & # 39; (Chapo substitute) by local media, said she became involved in the married Guzman in 2011, around the time that Coronel was pregnant with twins.

The problem began when Guzman set up Sanchez to buy marijuana for him, with instructions to prepare 400 kilograms (882 pounds) for each aircraft that was used to transport it from the countryside.

Prosecutors showed the jury intercepted texts in which the couple each & # 39; love & # 39; mentioned, while they called out how best to move medicines, although some messages from Guzman sounded more threatening.

Sanchez said she sometimes spoke sweet Guzman, so he did not think I would betray him. I thought he could hurt me. & # 39;

The romance began to sour towards the end of 2012, but "it seemed like it would never end.", Said Sanchez.

She said she would visit him at one of his many shelters in Cabo San Lucas and communicate with him on mobile phones he gave her. When he invited her in 2014 to one of the safe houses in the Sinaloa city of Culiacan, she automatically agreed.

Earlier, a DEA agent described how Guzman avoided a manhunt in 2014 by escaping through a sewer system. American authorities have said that Sanchez was with him at that time.

& # 39; I heard a lot of humps and helicopters. I heard the screaming, "Sánchez told jurors that he was in bed with Guzman on February 16, 2014, the New York Daily News reported.

A combined power from the American and Mexican authorities tried to ram the fortified door to the safe house when El Chapo, still naked, led her to the bathroom where a button raised the bath to reveal a secret escape tunnel.

& # 39; It was very dark and I was very scared, & # 39; said Sanchez. & # 39; He went off. He left us behind. & # 39;

Sanchez followed Guzman through the tunnel away from the safe house, at some point she felt water on her legs.

When she asked how long she had traveled in the dark, she suspected it was at least an hour or enough to traumatize me & # 39 ;.

US DEA liaison Victor Vasquez testified with video footage of the failed arrest attempt to invade the spacious house Sanchez and Guzman fled.

Guzman was finally caught but eventually ended up in a Mexican prison. He was recaptured and sent to the United States in 2017 to deal with charges that he thought were invented.

She said that she had also traded marijuana for him, with instructions to prepare 400 kilograms (882 pounds) for every plane that was used to transport it from the countryside. He tried to buy the marijuana on credit, but she refused because she was afraid the growers would never be paid.

& # 39; I did not agree because it was unfair, & # 39; she said.

The former legislator was arrested in 2017 by the American authorities in San Diego, California, after they discovered that they had laundered money and traffic for the Sinaloa cartel.

She admitted that she had concluded a plea agreement to cooperate with prosecutors to reduce her own verdict.
