The wife of a Gold Coast motocross racer has revealed her heartbreak after her husband died in a freak racing accident.

Corey ‘Magoo’ Whittington, 44, died during a competition at Elaman Creek on Sunday, leaving the Sunshine Coast motorcycling community in shock.

He reportedly crashed into another bike following a collision in front of him, causing him to crash and sustain neck and spinal injuries that proved fatal.

He leaves behind his wife Shannen, who has paid an emotional tribute to her late husband.

‘He was my best friend, my protector, he was everything to me.

‘He surprised me and showed me a love like I had never felt before.

The couple met on the Gold Coast in 2015 and married last year. Shannen revealed that her wedding date was of great importance to her and Corey.

“His career number was 963, so we got married on June 9, 2023,” he said.

“We were Team 963.”

Shannen says Corey’s peers would call him ‘Magoo’ but she would address him as ‘my brother’, while he would call her his ‘broette’.

Shannen has revealed that she regrets not saying three important words during her last phone call with Corey.

“We spoke on the phone a couple of hours later and we always ended our conversations by saying ‘I love you’, and usually I would say ‘come home safe’, but I didn’t say that this time and I’m kicking myself.” ,’ she said.

“It had been in so many accidents over the years that they held it together with metal plates, so (when the phone rang on Sunday) I thought I had done something or broken something,” he said.

‘But his friend Liam (who made the call) started crying and I started screaming.

‘I’ve got his bike at home now and it’s stored in the garage and apart from some dirt and mud it’s completely intact.

“It leaves me speechless.”
