One month before the premiere of the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, called The Book Of Carol, and AMC executives have already given the green light to a third season.
And as Daryl, Carol and company struggle to survive amid the zombie apocalypse in France in the upcoming new season, the next round of adventures that follows comes with a change of location to Spain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
That announcement came as stars Norman Reedus, 55, and Melissa McBride, 59, joined some of the other cast and crew members during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 at the Hilton Bayfront on Friday in San Diego, California.
In another big reveal, the trailer for the second season, which will again consist of six episodes, was unveiled during the panel portion of the event that also featured co-star Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, writer and showrunner David Zabel and director Gregory Nicotero, among others.
“I don’t know if this is where I’m supposed to be,” Daryl Dixon can be heard revealing at the top of the trailer, while Carol Peletier is on the hunt for her long-lost friend and is willing to travel across the high seas to find him.

The trailer for the upcoming second season was also unveiled at the Comic-Con event.
The third season will be set in Madrid, Spain, to be exact, and filming is scheduled to begin in August, with additional filming planned in the regions of Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.
‘Season three follows Carol Peletier (McBride) and Daryl Dixon (Reedus) as they continue their journey home and back to their loved ones,’ the official description for season three begins.
‘As they struggle to find their way back, the trail takes them even further, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of Walker’s apocalypse.’
Scott M. Gimple, who serves as chief content officer for The Walking Dead Universe, has high aspirations for the adventures of season three.
“France turned the story of Daryl and Carol into an epic poem with what we found there,” he said in a statement.
“What’s coming in Spain may even surpass it, and we’re excited to bring audiences more of the Terrible Two along with compelling new characters, in a previously unseen, beautiful and horrifying corner of their broken world.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce a third season and to be working side-by-side with the brilliant Melissa McBride,” Reedus shared, before further praising his longtime partner.
“Season 2 is one of my favorite stories on this show. Watching Melissa shine alongside our brilliant cast and crew has been one of my fondest memories of playing this character,” the Hollywood, Florida native revealed.
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce a third season and to be working side-by-side with the brilliant Melissa McBride,” Reedus, 55, shared during the panel.

Having made his Walking Dead debut in episode three of season one, Daryl (Reedus) has remained a mainstay ever since, due in part to the character’s popularity among his die-hard fanbase.
Originally, the plan was for McBride to star alongside Reedus in the spin-off series.
But he had to leave the show for personal reasons following the end of the iconic show The Walking Dead after the eleventh season, as reported Variety.
Finally, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon made its series premiere, consisting of six episodes, on AMC in September 2023.
In addition to Reedus, the cast also includes Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Clémence Poésy, Laïka Blanc-Francard, Anne Charrier, Romain Levi, Adam Nagaitis, while recurring roles include François Delaive, Eriq Ebouaney, Tristan Zanchi and Lukerya Ilyashenko.
Reedus’ Daryl Dixon quickly became one of the most popular characters in the flagship series.
The two actors worked together on the original The Walking Dead, and both made their debut in episode three of the eleventh season of the series that aired on AMC.
Clémence Poésy and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi are also integral to the new story.
The post-apocalyptic horror drama series centers on Daryl, who washes up on the shores of France, which turns out to be the source of the zombie virus, leading him to scramble to piece together how he got there and why.
McBride’s character Carol, who had been Daryl’s best friend, made an appearance in the season one finale, setting up the next round of battles with the undead, as well as some of the living.
“There’s still a lot to discover in France for the second season and a stunning finale,” added McBride, 59. “And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling makes the most of all that is so beautiful and unique about Spain.”
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol season 2, the fifth spin-off and sixth television series overall in the franchise, will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 29.
