The View’s Joy Behar was called into a meeting with her bosses after she ‘crossed a line’ when she exposed co-host Sara Haines’ secret lesbian affair on air.
The somewhat controversial host, 82, addressed the brief same-sex affair Haines, 47, had in college while her parents were sitting in the audience of Wednesday’s show.
Behar interrupted co-host Whoopi Goldberg, 68, to ask if Haines was going to talk about the affair with her parents in her upcoming appearance on the show’s Behind the Table podcast.
Her co-hosts criticized her for “embarrassing” Haines and she was stopped by bosses, who told her the comment was “not okay.”
“Joy was criticized by her co-hosts and superiors for her on-air comment about Sara Haines’ lesbian romance,” a source told DailyMail.com. ‘She crossed the line in terms of relaying something she was told off-air.

The outburst occurred while Goldberg was broadcasting the podcast at the end of Wednesday’s show.
“I have to ask you a question,” Behar interrupted as she turned to Haines. ‘Are you going to mention that lesbian relationship you said you had at Smith (University)?’
Haines started laughing while his other co-hosts reacted in shock.
When the camera showed Haines’ parents, his father’s jaw dropped and his mother smiled.
‘Dad, earmuffs! ‘Earmuffs!’ Haines said while miming with his hands over his ears.

Haines made light of the awkward situation, joking, “It’s a good thing my dad doesn’t always see… But now he does.”
Goldberg added: “Now he will.”
Another source told DailyMail.com: “This was something Sara had shared with the audience off-air a week earlier, which is why Joy said it so freely.”
Haines grew up in an “extremely conservative” home and attended a left-leaning women’s liberal arts college in Northampton, Massachusetts.
She married attorney Max Shifrin in 2014. The longtime couple share children: Alec, eight, Sandra, six, and Caleb, five.
She has been a co-host on and off since joining The View in 2016.

Behar, whose net worth is estimated at $30 million, has been a fixture on the daytime panel since 1997, save for a brief hiatus between 2013 and 2015.
She famously doesn’t hold back and previously accused Haines of being a secret “lesbian” when the married mother of three revealed that she had visited Cubbyhole, a lesbian bar in Manhattan.
“She’s a closeted lipstick lesbian,” he said in an episode in June.
He also talked about his own views on “getting along” with a woman.
When asked if he had ever had relations with a ‘lady’, he replied: ‘No, but one day I will… I will when I’m 90!’
