New images have shown extensive construction work at Barcelona’s iconic Camp Nou, as the club aims to play matches at the venue this year.

After winning the LaLiga title in June 2023, the Catalan giants began work on their world-famous stadium as part of a £1.3bn renovation project.

The third level of the stadium was demolished following the conclusion of last season when the project began to deliver a modernized stadium with a capacity of 105,000.

The latest images show that work has continued on the remaining two levels of the stadium, where the playing surface has long since given way to becoming the center of construction.

Barcelona updated the city’s Architectural Technical Association on the progress of the remodeling this month.

The architects were shown that the columns for the third level of the stadium are beginning to rise into the stadium, while the pillars were installed on the second level of the stadium.

Barcelona states that the entire structure of the new third level is developed around the previous façade, designed by Francesc Mitjans, José Soteras and Lorenzo García in 1957.

Repair work has also been carried out on the structure of the first and second stands of the stadium, with initial construction work being carried out on the new lower rows in the first stand of the stadium.

Barcelona remains confident that construction is going according to plan, with president Joan Laporta insisting the club could still host matches at the Camp Nou this year.

Laporta said Sports world that Barcelona are looking to host a match at the Camp Nou before Christmas and talks are reportedly ongoing between the club and LaLiga.

The stadium would reportedly operate at 60 percent capacity, with the first and second levels open.

According to the plan, around 65,000 fans could attend the match and the club also aims to have 50 percent of the VIP areas open.

The stadium's capacity will increase to 105,000 when Barcelona's iconic home is completed.

Barcelona aims for the club to operate the stadium at 90 percent capacity during the 2025-26 season, while construction work continues on the third level of the stadium.

The Catalan giants have been playing home games at the city’s 54,000-capacity Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys until their new stadium is ready to welcome them back.

The Catalan giants, who have had well-documented financial problems in recent years, will earn an extra £25m a year when the stadium is completed.

The Barcelona stadium project will expand Camp Nou’s capacity to 105,000 seats, in addition to renovating the interiors, adding escalators and improving the press room.
