A damning new Vanity Fair article featuring explosive claims about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has once again raised questions about the Duchess’ claims that the Royal Family forced her to wear neutral colors so as not to stand out.
But in fact, although she insisted that she chose camel, beige and white at royal engagements, so as not to clash with other members of the Firm, she has predominantly worn muted colors since Megxit five years ago.
In an effort not to step on anyone within the Royal Family, the Duchess said she also adapted her wardrobe accordingly.
Speaking in the 2022 Netflix documentary series Harry and Meghan, he said: “Most of the time I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour.
“As I understand it, you can never wear the same color as Her Majesty if there is a group event, but you should also never wear the same color as any of the other senior members of the family.”
To respect this rumored royal protocol, Meghan says she began dressing almost exclusively in shades of camel, beige and white.
Now, speaking to Vanity Fair, Tom Fitzgerald, a cultural and fashion commentator who lives in Montecito, noted that he found some of Meghan’s claims hardly credible; for example, the notion that she didn’t know she would have to curtsy for the Queen.
While Meghan claimed that the Royal Family forced her to wear neutral clothing, she wore those shades before and after her stint as a member of the Firm (pictured in 2012).

In 2013, the then-actress said Hello! Canada who loves to “wear head-to-toe neutrals.” Always lengthen your figure
Additionally, Tom noted that Meghan has made “repeated claims that she was forced to wear neutral clothing during her time at the palace” so as not to upstage more senior members of the family.
However, she noted, these days she mostly opts for a neutral color palette.
But in fact, Meghan had been championing this color palette in her wardrobe even before she met Harry, showing it off for the first time in May 2012.
The warm, versatile tones are a staple in her wardrobe, from her time as an active member of the Royal Family to the present day.
Karen Haller, a specialist in applied color and design psychology and author of The Little Book of Color, previously told MailOnline that these colors encourage a sense of calm amid a demanding lifestyle.
She said: “When it comes to color psychology, soft light browns, such as beige, taupe and tan, are calming and help create a feeling of grounding and stability.
‘They can help foster a feeling of composure and may reflect a desire to walk quietly, without attracting attention.
“These colors can also act as a counterbalance to a hectic lifestyle, offering a feeling of calm and simplicity.”

Vanity Fair (pictured) has published an article about how the Sussexes have fared in the five years since they left the Royal Family.
She debuted her first completely neutral look at the USA Upfront Presentation in New York in May 2012.

At the American Ballet Theater opening gala in New York in October 2013, Meghan dazzled in a one-shoulder Lanvin dress in a rich cappuccino hue, paired with matching Christian Louboutin pumps.
He even said Hello! Canada who “loved” a completely neutral set.

“I love this look because it speaks to my personal aesthetic: elegant and simple.”
For a World Vision event at Lumas Gallery in March 2016, Meghan opted for a mocha suede sheath dress by Theory.
She accessorized the dress with lace-up Aquazzura pumps in the same shade for a polished finish.
While she wore some colorful looks during her solo engagements as a royal, her most colorful looks were worn during her final weeks as a working royal.
Speaking during the Netflix documentary series about her and Harry, she said: “Until the last week in the UK, I never wanted to upstage or ruffle feathers, so I just tried to blend in. But I used a lot of color that week. I thought, “Well, let’s look like a rainbow.”
However, since leaving the Firm and since the alleged restrictions on the colors she could wear, Meghan has been seen wearing neutral tones on multiple occasions.
For example, IIn August 2023, Meghan and Prince Harry appeared in a video from their garden, talking about their work with young people to create a better digital future.

In a video message shared in 2023, Meghan once again showed her love for neutrals, wearing a beige dress.

Attending the Variety Power Of Women 2023 event in Los Angeles, Meghan once again dressed in a completely neutral ensemble.
Meghan wore a camel-colored tank top and matching skirt from Malibu-based brand Bleusalt.
In September, while attending the Invictus Games in Germany, the former Suits actress wore white, cream and black to all of her appearances.
Among her looks, she wore cream-colored pants from Cuyana with a trench coat from the same brand and a white t-shirt.
She combined the look with purist Aquazurra heels, which she has worn on dozens of occasions, in the same tone.
