Police arrested the employee at a house in Wheeler Heights just before 2:00 pm Wednesday and took him to the Manly Police Station.

He was charged with two counts of common assault and the use of an offensive weapon with the intent to commit an incriminating offense.

Superintendent David Darcy of the Northern Beaches Police Area Command said that elder abuse can take many forms, from physical to psychological, emotional or financial.

"These vulnerable people need communities to help be their voice," said Superintendent Darcy.

"To see an old man treated in this way is shameful."

The man received conditional bail and will appear before the local court in Manly on September 11.
