“Red” was the word on everyone’s lips as more than 90,000 stylish attendees flocked to Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday for this year’s Melbourne Cup.
Dozens of high-profile guests set out to show off the new ‘colour’ and different shades, with women of all shapes and sizes sporting scarlet hats, ruby shoes and touches of pink.
Red has been a dominant color trend throughout 2024 after being seen on high fashion runways such as Gucci, Burberry and Chanel. Many have called it the “color of the season.”
Racing enthusiast Viera Macikova leads the trend in a scarlet suit with a matching hat and heart-shaped bag. Meanwhile, model Olivia Molly Rogers, 32, wore a bright red strapless long-sleeved maxi dress with a clutch and pointed heels.
Red dresses with floral details were very popular. Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus looked gorgeous in the crimson strapless mini dress with floral style ruffles.
Melbourne entrepreneur and influencer Hannah Del Sasso wore a custom-made Madoh dress, Tony Bianco heels, a Billini bag and accessories by Temelli Jewellery. The eye-catching outfit itself featured a corset and roses on the hips and chest.
Stylist Lana Wilkinson put her best foot forward and was also on-trend in a strapless dress with large bows along the waist.
Influencer Tayla Broad kept her look chic by pairing her red dress with black accessories (a classic combination) and, to stand out from the crowd, she wore black gloves.

Red is not the only color of the moment.
Possibly inspired by Glinda from the upcoming movie Wicked, many guests opted for gorgeous shades of pink as they strolled down the runway.
Designer Rebecca Vallance led the way for this second color trend of the event while posing with Nicky Hilton. She looked radiant in the long pink dress with puffed sleeves and bow detail at the front.
DJ Perri Lee looked chic as she posed for a photo, pairing the strapless tutu dress with white heels, a clutch, and minimal jewelry.
TV presenter Sylvia Jeffreys, 38, looked glamorous in a stunning pink midi dress which featured puff sleeves and buckled belt details around the bodice.
Australian swimmer Alexa Leary turned heads after opting for a layered ruffle ensemble and matching feather bag.

Model Kate Waterhouse kept her look chic by wearing a bright red headscarf to match her dress and lipstick.
Both Michelle Payne and actress Laura Dundovic wore headbands, but they were large enough to detract from the “practical choice” charge.
Other popular choices that day were large bows; However, we have seen that often in recent years they barely deserve the title of “trend” in 2024.
