Hailey Bieber is a fan. Amanda Seyfried has one. And Meghan and Harry are also believed to have the device in her kitchen.

Move over the marble countertops, American refrigerators and integrated coffee machines: according to designers, the new kitchen that should show its status is a hot water tap above the stove.

Nicknamed ‘lazy taps’, the implements allow you to fill saucepans, cups and other utensils with extra hot water, saving time boiling the kettle and without having to walk.

The faucets have been seen in the homes of Seyfried, Bieber, as well as Kendall Jenner, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Unlike kitchen or bathroom faucets, instead of being installed above the sink, lazy faucets are installed above the countertop, for easy use while cooking.

Taps can cost between £150 and £1,000 and are becoming increasingly popular in the UK thanks to “featured on TV shows and celebrity home tours”.

Meghan and Harry appear to have one in the kitchen of their Frogmore Cottage, as seen in a black and white shot of the couple shared in their Netflix series.

Another fan is Amanda Seyfried, who showed off her version during a tour of her home on YouTube for Architectural Digest.

The actor praised the device, describing it as “awesome” and “gourmet.”

Meanwhile, both Hayley Bieber and Kendall Jenner have the faucets, which are also sometimes called “pot fillers,” in their high-end kitchens.

The main difference between boiling water taps and lazy taps or pot fillers is the location, with the former being located next to the kitchen sink.

They started becoming the UK a few years ago, around 2015.

Speaking about those devices of the time, Diana Blamires of Homebase said: “Hot water taps not only provide customers with an easy and convenient way to get hot water, but for many, it is a style decision to the kitchens, as the hot water faucets look great.

‘The phenomenal popularity of the hot water tap appears to be the death knell for the kettle.

‘If you work or study from home, having a hot tap can save you precious minutes. “This could put an end to the surge on the national network during ad breaks as it only takes a few seconds to get a drink, so you can have it whenever you want.”

Speaking to the Telegraph about lazy taps, Tom Howley, design director at bespoke kitchen design firm of the same name, said he had yet to see “huge demand” from British customers.

He said: “They’re probably more of an aesthetic fashion statement to finish off your kitchen.”

Meanwhile, Luke Shipway, head of product at kitchen appliance company Caple, said it could be worth implementing them as part of a complete kitchen overhaul.

He added that the faucets have another benefit: “If you have a busy sink area, you can also use the faucet to fill a kettle for a quick tea.”
