The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had shot down a UAV over Kiev after “losing control” of it

On Thursday night, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement: “At around 20:00 (17:00 GMT), a Bayraktar TB2 drone went out of control during a routine sortie over Kiev…the target was destroyed.”

After several explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had shot down a drone over Kiev on Thursday, after losing control of it. Explosions rang out for between 15 and 20 minutes in Kiev, which witnessed a series of attacks on Wednesday-Thursday night.

And on Thursday night, a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force said, “About 20:00 (17:00 GMT), a Bayraktar TB2 drone went out of control during a routine sortie over Kiev…the target was destroyed.” The Air Force believes that a technical glitch may have caused the aircraft to lose control.

Agence France-Presse journalists had seen a march that the air defenses were trying to bring down, while the military administration of the city of Kiev reported that “the air defense has been activated.” Journalists saw a cloud of black smoke in the air.

And the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, reported “explosions and fires in the Solomyansky district of the capital,” warning of possible debris from drones. Kiev witnessed a wave of attacks on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.

“Our city has not witnessed such intense strikes since the beginning of this year,” said the head of the Kiev military administration, Sergey Popko, on Thursday morning, adding that this was the third day of attempted strikes on Kiev in May.
