A drunk driver who got behind the wheel of a mustard-colored Ford Mustang to receive a birthday gift lost control of his car and caused an accident on the Czech highway.

CCTV footage taken from the scene on Pilnáčkova Street in the Czech town of Hradec Králové showed how the reckless driver ran a red light and entered a busy intersection.

Unable to tame the 430 HP Mustang, the drunk driver veered off the track, onto the sidewalk and crashed into a traffic sign before ripping off the sports car’s bumper.

For a moment it seemed that his fellow motorists would miraculously escape the carnage.

But the drunk driver somehow managed to get back on the road, completing a 360-degree spin before crashing into the back of an unsuspecting Renault Megane.

The police who responded to the scene immediately performed a breathalyzer test and discovered that the embarrassed driver was indeed drunk at the wheel.

Further inspection revealed that he was also driving without a license.

Police investigations discovered that the 50-year-old driver had been given a ride in the Mustang as a birthday present, but only as a passenger.

After enjoying a glass of beer and a shot of rum during a birthday lunch, the man headed to the experience center to check out the car.

But instead of asking him to sit in the passenger seat, the car owners handed him the keys, evidently without checking his permission.

A statement from Hradec Králové police said: “The 50-year-old man committed four offenses at the same time: jumping a red light, not respecting the speed limit, driving without a driving license and being drunk at the wheel.”

‘Whether someone else has committed an illegal act is the subject of further investigation.

Police also revealed that the Megane suffered an estimated 50,000 Czech crowns (£1,688) worth of damage, while repairs to the Mustang were estimated to have cost around £7,000.

The investigation continues.
