A Thai man who raped and killed a German backpacker was sentenced to death this week
Ronnakorn Romruen, 24, attacked Miriam Bdeel, 26, when she visited a historic stone monument on the island of Koh Si Chang in eastern Thailand on April 7.
He then raped her before she hit her head with a rock to kill her and stop her from reporting the attack.
Ronnakorn then hid her body under leaves on a remote hill. Locals found her body that same day.
Later that evening, the police arrested the local beach cleaner and then admitted that he had raped and killed the woman from Hildesheim, Germany.
Ronnakorn has been in custody since the murder took place three months ago.
He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to death on Wednesday because the & # 39; crime was so serious that a reduced sentence was impossible & # 39 ;.
Ronnakorn Romruen pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of the German tourist after his arrest on April 7

The tourist from Hildesheim, Germany, was discovered behind rocks with heavy head wounds and a broken leg
The verdict released by Chonburi Provincial Court to read: & # 39; Ronnakorn Romruen was guilty of rape (14 years in prison), murder to hide, hide and use the crime (death penalty), drug use and driving (eight months in prison) of the death of a person (one year in prison).
It said, because he confessed during the arrest, the court would halve the fine for charges related to rape, taking methamphetamine, drunk driving and hiding the death of a person.
& # 39; But overall crime is so serious that the suspect deserves to die and the punishment of the death penalty remains in place for the accusation of murder to hide a crime for which there is no mitigation. & # 39;

CCTV showed how Ronnakorn had followed Mrs. Bdeel's hillside from the old stone monument while harassing her to sleep with him.
When she rejected his advances, the murderous murderer pinned her to the ground and raped her.
He later told the police that after she had freed herself, she was after her and hit her with a rock on her head until she was dead, because he didn't want her to report the attack.
Ronnakorn then hid her body behind the rocks and covered it with leaves.
Agents said Ronnakorn was familiar with murder after four hours of interrogation and was brought back to his shabby wooden house in the early morning hours to redo parts of the crime.
After killing the only vacationer, he watched TV quietly while smoking cigarettes and drinking beer.
Ronnakorn & # 39; s mother, Nongluck Phosang, 43, had previously called on the prosecutors to give the death penalty to her son.
She said: & # 39; My son and I didn't live together, so I didn't know much about what he used to do in the day. I only knew he worked on a boat and collected trash from the beaches.
& # 39; He's a silent guy who doesn't talk much. He likes to stay home alone, watch TV and listen to music, just like most boys. & # 39;
& # 39; I very much apologize to the girl's family on behalf of my son. I never thought he could do something like that. He deserves the full legal penalty and I am willing to accept the judge's decision. & # 39;
Ronnakorn has a month to appeal the sentence before being put in death row.
