Three relationships dominate the story of the missing mother Lyn Dawson: her marriage to her husband Chris, her affair with schoolgirl Joanne Curtis and her inseparable connection to her twin brother.
There is the normal bond that is often found among siblings, the sometimes creepy similarities between twins, and then there is the downright strange closeness of Paul Dawson and his identical brother Chris.
For 70 years, the Dawson brothers have lived, worked and played in a proximity that borders on the strange for those outside their two-man bubble world.

In a 1975 episode of the ABC show Chequerboard the Dawson brothers were asked what it would be like to be married to identical twins. They denied doing tricks to their own wives

Chris Dawson met Lynette Simms when she was at Sydney Boys High and she was at the adjacent Sydney Girls High. Two coroners discovered that Mr. Dawson probably killed his wife in 1982, but the Director of Public Prosecutions refused to prosecute, citing lack of evidence
Once out of school, the Dawson boys chose to join the same sports teams, followed the same races and bought land to build houses in the same neighborhood.
Together they played the highest level rugby league for the same club, in the same position, during the same period, they went to the university of teachers and took identical roles in the same or nearby schools.
They had part-time jobs together as garbage collectors, models and personal trainers, trotted side by side on the slopes when they were not working, and each one fathered three daughters.
They also had relationships with girls they had once taught, and according to the evidence heard in a coronary investigation in 2003, they both had sex with nanny Joanne Curtis, even at the same time.
Now the Dawson brothers are at the center of unwanted world attention brought by new research on the disappearance of Lyn Dawson in 1982. As always, they are sticking solidly.
Today the 70-year-old lives in Queensland – Chris on the Costa del Sol and Paul on the Gold Coast – and they regularly spend time together. Paul has license plates & # 39; 1 TWIN & # 39; in his SUV Subaru and Chris has & # 39; 2 TWIN & # 39; in his Volkswagen truck.

While it is Chris who is suspected of the murder of his wife, it is his brother who is considered the most energetic personality.
He was the best footballer, the most successful educator, he became deputy director and, unlike his twice divorced brother, he was married to the same woman, Marilyn, for more than 40 years.
In an interview in a 1989 newspaper unrelated to the disappearance of Lyn Dawson, the brothers were quoted as saying it was "great to be a twin because I had a friend for life no matter what happened."
"We love it – we always ask to be in the same classes at school and we have played the same sports together all our lives," they said.
The closeness of the brothers is examined in a 14-part podcast entitled The Teacher's Pet produced by The Australian newspaper that has intrigued audiences around the world.
This week, police began a thorough search of the house on the beaches of North Sydney, where Chris and Lyn Dawson lived and where some believe their body has been buried for the past 36 years.

Police returned this week to search around the pool at Lyn and Chris Dawson's house in Bayview. A search in the same area in 2000 located a pink cardigan that Lyn could have had
Christopher Michael Dawson and Paul Anthony Dawson were born to Syd and Joan on July 26, 1948. Paul first entered the world.
When they were children, the couple developed their own secret language and, finally, they had to undergo speech therapy so that others could understand it.
The boys went to Sydney Boys High where they met Lynette Joy Simms when she was in the fifth form of Sydney Girls High and the three became prefects.
They completed their diplomas in teaching at Balmain Teachers & # 39; College and later obtained Arts degrees through the University of New England. Both became physical education teachers.
Chris and Lyn were married in 1970. The twins, who had played rugby in the Eastern Suburbs since 1967, switched to the league and joined the Newtown Jets as second rowers in 1972.
According to reports, the couple went to the club in the center of the city because it was the only place that would take them both, since Paul was considered the most skilled soccer player.
Masters Paul and Chris Dawson were minor celebrities on the beaches of North Sydney in the early 1980s because of their years playing in the professional rugby league and their careers as a model.
"But when twins start coming out, I think they realize the relationship between twins, I think they tend to accept it," Paul Dawson told ABC's checkerboard program in 1975.
The younger brother was known among his peers as "Cranky Chris", a coronary investigation was heard in 2003. His older brother was "Paul Passive".
"Among their football teammates, Chris and Paul Dawson generally cling to themselves," Sgt. Matt Fordham told investigative judge Carl Milovanovich. "They seemed to be introverted and vulnerable without the support of others."
In 1975 the brothers appeared in an episode of the ABC program Ladies Board dedicated to the special relationship between twins.
During that program, the brothers were filmed looking at each other while lifting weights in front of a mirror.
"Very often you will see a reflection of yourself and immediately you think:" Ha, it's the other, "said one of the twins." And, of course, when you realize that you are obviously yourself, somehow you have a Small smile inside you could be confused yourself.
"Our whole lives really are reflections reflected from each other."
You can not say no: the Dawson twins dressed as cops in a commercial CC chip
Chris Dawson married Lynette Simms in 1970. They had two daughters, Shanelle and Sherryn, before the registered nurse disappeared from the beaches of North Sydney in January 1982.
The interviewer asked the brothers if it was difficult for their wives to marry twins because "you can hardly say they are married to a man when you are so close".
They chuckled when the interviewer asked them if they had ever done the trick & # 39; to their wives to exchange themselves.
Paul: No, no.
Chris: "That's a clear no, no, we have not."
Paul: "Certainly that is an emphatic no."
"But when twins start coming out, I think they realize the relationship between twins, I think they tend to accept it," Paul said.
"And they would not go into anything like marriage unless they accepted it, you know, this bond or this relationship between her husband and her twin."
Chris and Paul Dawson played the second row for the Newtown Jets from 1972 to 1977. They then joined the Gosford Townies on the Central Coast and later played for the Belrose Eagles.
Lyn Dawson also referred to what it was like to be married to an identical twin.
"I had not thought about sharing it until someone a couple of years ago said:" What is it like to share a husband? ", He said.
"And for me, it seemed so silly because I had not thought about it and just joined in. You encourage his closeness, it's not that he needs encouragement."
I had not thought about sharing it until someone a couple of years ago said: "What is it like to share a husband? & # 39;
In the mid-1970s, both brothers bought blocks of land a few hundred meters away on the beaches north of Sydney on Gilwinga Drive in Bayview.
They used the same builder to build the houses of their dreams and then used the same company to install pools.
Lyn, who had struggled to conceive, gave birth to Shanelle in 1977 and Sherryn two years later. Paul and Marilyn already had three daughters.
Both Dawsons left the Jets at the end of the 1977 season and continued playing with the Gosford Townies on the central coast, where in 1978 they won the post of prime minister.
They then spent two seasons as coaches of joint captains of their local Belrose Eagles.
The Dawson brothers help teach NFL player Manfred Moore how to play during his brief stint with the Newtown Jets in 1977. Moore won the 1976 Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders
Handsome, powerfully built and photogenic, they were seen by many as minor celebrities on the northern beaches.
At the time of Lyn Dawson's disappearance, Paul was a physical education teacher at Forest High and Chris played the same role at nearby Cromer High, where he seduced Joanne Curtis.
Sergeant Fordham described the rivalry between the brothers in their final presentations in the coronary investigation of 2003.

"In his youth, Chris was continually trying to meet the standard set by his older twin brother," said Sgt. Fordham.
"There was, in my opinion, a form of sibling competition between the two twin brothers regarding relationships with women, finances, employment, status, sports prowess and property."
The interests and shared experiences of the brothers supposedly extended to a sexual tendency towards the students.
The Dawson twins appear on football cards during their years playing for the Newtown Jets
"Chris Dawson was known among his peers for incidents of infidelity," Sgt. Fordham told coroner Carl Milovanovich.
"Some of these included the participation of his twin brother Paul and there is evidence in the report that sex was organized for his brother as a way to give away.
"The self-esteem of Chris Dawson seems to have depended on being able to keep up appearances with his twin brother."
Detective Sergeant Damian Loone said in the 2003 investigation: "Joanne Curtis admits that, at the instigation of Christopher Dawson, she had sexual encounters with Paul Dawson, including Christopher and Paul Dawson together."
Ms. Curtis had told Detective Sergeant Loone in 1998 that Paul and Marilyn Dawson had been aware of their relationship with Chris.
Chris Dawson, now 70, lives in Mt Coolum on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. He has always denied any involvement in the disappearance of his first wife Lyn 1982 and alleged murder
Chris Dawson was twice as old as Joanne Curtis when they started having sex while in Year 11 at Cromer High and was a teacher there. The couple got married when she was only 19
– Well, Paul did it, because he was having sex with young girls all over the place, so you know, he was … & # 39; she said.
& # 39; Well, you know, I would not mention names, but, you know, I had relationships with schoolgirls & # 39;
Detective Sergeant Loone: Did Marilyn know that Paul was having adventures?
Well, you know, I would not mention names, but, you know, I had relationships with schoolgirls.
Joanne Curtis: I do not think so, I do not know. I really do not know, because it was certainly happening right under their noses. If she simply turned a blind eye.
In the same interview, Ms. Curtis said that Chris Dawson was a narcissist and that the only person who really cared was his brother.
"He was quite possessive, quite antisocial, but certainly, you know, he was the most important and nobody else really mattered," he said.
"His brother Paul was, you know, very, very important to him, but, you know, it's not surprising to be a twin."

Former soccer star Chris Dawson married his 19-year-old lover, Joanne Curtis, at his home in Bayview in 1984. They moved to Queensland and had a daughter, Kristen (all in the picture).
Not in dispute Paul Dawson, his wife and children were in Lake Munmorah, on the central coast, when Lyn disappeared from Bayview on 8 or 9 January 1982.
Mrs. Dawson has not been seen since and two forensics have recommended to Chris Dawson that she be accused of his murder. He denies any wrongdoing.
It is not suggested that his older twin brother is suspected of involvement in the disappearance of Lyn Dawson
Paul Dawson was interviewed in March 1999 by NSW detectives about what he knew about his brother's marriage and the disappearance of his sister-in-law.
"I think they were both dissatisfied with certain aspects of their marriage," he said. "Probably both had legitimate beefs …
"Chris is my twin brother, so he's obviously close to me, and I think they were solving it."
In that interview, Paul told the police what Chris had told him: that Lynn had called him after his disappearance, that he had been seen on the central coast and that he could have escaped with a religious group.
He agreed that Lyn Dawson was a good mother, but said she was not too affectionate. He denied having sex with Joanne Curtis.
Detective: "In relation to Joanne Curtis, did you ever have a relationship with Joanne Curtis?
Paul Dawson: & # 39; No & # 39;
Detective: & # 39; There is no physical relationship? & # 39;
Paul Dawson: No. No. & # 39;
Detective: & # 39; There is no relationship? & # 39;
Paul Dawson: No. No. & # 39;

Christopher Dawson's teenage lover, Joanne Curtis, plays with her daughters Shanelle and Sherryn
However, he admitted having had a relationship for some months with a former student who had taught at Forest High.
Paul said he had sex with this teenager in "several places," including once at his home, but denied that Chris had sex with the same girl.
He was sure that his brother had nothing to do with the disappearance of his wife.
I mean, he's my twin brother … I would not have played any part in Lyn's disappearance.
"It would not have happened," he said. "I know, I mean, he's my twin brother, I know he would not have, I do not know, whatever, he would not have played any part in Lyn's disappearance."
He and Marilyn had considered how Chris would explain to Joanne Curtis that he lived with him if he really believed that Lyn intended to return home after a short time of their marriage.
"I think we asked ourselves the same question at that moment from memory," he said. "I think Marilyn and I probably said the same thing, I do not know, I do not know how they were going to fix it."
After Chris married Joanne, they moved to Queensland Gold Coast almost at the same time that Paul and Marilyn did the same.
Joanne Curtis appears on the beaches of North Sydney recently. Ms. Curtis lives not far from her daughter Kristen and has not had another relationship since leaving Chris Dawson in 1990.
Before that move, both brothers charged for the insurance policies they had in their own lives because, according to Paul in his 1999 police interview, they would not need as much money or coverage as they did in Sydney.
Detective: Would you agree that you were, even taking into account the fact that you were twins, were you something closer than maybe the twins would expect to be? & # 39;
Paul Dawson: We … the twins are close. Yes. It's hard to understand if you're not a twin, but the twins are close, yes.
Detective: "Allowing that closeness, has Chris ever pointed out something unfortunate that may have happened?"
Paul Dawson: "None at all."
Marilyn Dawson was interviewed the same day as her husband.
The old house of Chris and Lyn Dawson on Gilwinga Drive, Bayview, as it is today. The police visited the property in search of forensic evidence in 1990, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2015 and 2016
"We were pretty involved in the lives of Chris and Lyn because my husband and his twin brother are very close," he said.
"I wanted Lyn to fight for Chris and her marriage and the children and she did not …
"She seemed to be gentle when she wanted her to be strong."
"I would have fought and somehow I fought for my marriage because my husband was her twin and, you know, whatever Chris was doing, my husband could have been doing something like that, and that's why I fought for my husband, and I want Lyn had ".
Whatever Chris was doing, my husband could also be, and I fought for my husband …
Marilyn Dawson was not asked about her husband's affair with an alumnus, but spoke more about the personalities of Chris and Paul.
"When Chris was doing his college, Paul and I sat in the middle of the night writing homework," he said.
"I think my husband is the dominant personality, he has more common sense and I think my husband loves his brother and [would] protect him in any way he had to …
"But … I do not think Chris can do anything to hurt his wife Lyn, and I do not think my husband can hide that from me …"
Marilyn was asked directly if she thought her husband would lie to her or the police about Chris' potential involvement in Lyn's disappearance.
"I do not think he does anything to not help you in your work," he said. "But I tell you that his twin is the most important person, probably the most important for him in the world, after his wife and family."
Chris, Paul and Marilyn Dawson refused to testify at the 2001 and 2003 hearings.
In his final presentations in 2003, Sergeant Fordham returned to accusations that Paul Dawson had sex with a student.
"Then there's the claim that he and Chris had sex with another student at the same time, which is denied categorically in his interview record," said Sgt. Fordham.
"Paul also denies that their relationship happened at the time that girl was still in school and yet his statement describes incidents that could only have occurred during his school years."
Joanne Curtis imagined with her daughter Kristen on the beaches of North Sydney last week. Mrs. Curtis does not believe that Lyn Dawson would have chosen to leave her two daughters
Chris and Paul Dawson were represented in that 2003 investigation by their lawyer, Brother Peter Dawson, who said there should be an open discovery about Lyn's disappearance.
"The investigation officials also alluded to the involvement of Paul Dawson in the disappearance of Lynette and my friend suggested some sinister connection between them," Peter Dawson told the coroner.
I suggest with respect, sir, that all that has been shown is a very strong bond between siblings.
