Taylor Swift fans are gearing up for the American pop megastar’s shows in Singapore next month.

The Cruel Summer singer, 34, received a scholarship to perform in the city-state in March, headlining six sold-out shows in the island country.

But it will be your only stop in Southeast Asia, for an interesting reason.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said at a business forum in February that Singapore had paid Swift approximately 100 million baht (A$4.2 million) per show, reportedly on the condition that Singapore would be the only show in Swift in Southeast Asia.

“(AEG) didn’t tell me the exact figure, but they said the Singapore government offers subsidies of between $3 million and $4.6 million,” Srettha said publicly at a business forum in Bangkok.

‘But the Singapore government is smart. They told (the organizers) not to hold any more shows in (southeast) Asia.’

The long-awaited shows will be a potential boon for the economy.

Singapore’s tourism board and Ministry of Culture did not disclose the amount of the subsidy, but referred in a statement on Tuesday to the economic benefits Swift’s concerts bring around the world due to her popularity.

They said the ministry had worked with concert promoter AEG Presents to get Swift to perform in Singapore.
