Erik ten Hag has insisted Jadon Sancho’s talent is “not the problem” after the exiled Manchester United winger helped Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Sancho started both legs of the Champions League quarter-finals as the Bundesliga side claimed a 5-4 aggregate victory over Atlético Madrid.

The winger rejoined Dortmund in January on loan until the end of the season amid a dispute with Ten Hag.

Sancho had been exiled after responding to the manager’s claims that he had been dropped for his “training performance” in September on social media.

Ten Hag confirmed that he had followed the quarter-final second leg and acknowledged that the result was “good news” for Sancho, but stressed that the winger’s talent is not the problem for Man United.

“Of course, I follow international football and I follow players on loan at other clubs. “It was a fantastic match, Dortmund against Atlético de Madrid,” said Ten Hag.

‘A great performance from Dortmund and also for Jadon is good news.

“He contributed to Dortmund’s result.

‘We know that Jadon Sancho is a fantastic football player, so that is not a surprise for us. That is not the problem.’
