The TV star looked a far cry from his soap opera character in Albert Square as he swapped his clean-shaven face for a handlebar moustache.
The icon also made history by becoming the first British television character to be diagnosed with HIV and helped change attitudes about the virus when fear and misinformation were rife.

Todd’s appearance has completely transformed since playing Mark Fowler in EastEnders and Tucker Jenkins in Grange Hill.
Heading out for a casual outing, Todd went out to do some shopping at Waitrose.
He was wearing jeans and a casual blue sweatshirt, while trying to keep a low profile with a navy blue cap.
Todd first found fame when he played the endearing schoolboy scoundrel Tucker Jenkins on BBC1’s Grange Hill from 1978 to 1982 and its spin-off from 1983 to 1985, Tucker’s Luck.
He went on to play Mark Fowler in EastEnders for 13 years until HIV-positive Mark rode off into the Walford sunset on his motorbike to suffer an off-screen death.
Todd’s profile soared again in 2009, as the hilariously unlikely skating star of the reality show Dancing on Ice: a film of him losing control and shooting into the wings of the rink quickly went viral.
Speaking of his love of acting, he previously told The Daily Mail: “Being a child actor teaches you discipline.”
