Slovakia’s Prime Minister has been “shot and taken to hospital”, according to local reports.
Robert Fico was shot in Handlova after a Slovak government meeting, the TASR news agency reported Wednesday.
Shots were fired in front of the House of Culture and a witness told Reuters that he saw a man detained by the police.

The alleged attacker was arrested by police at the scene.
A local journalist told the Slovak news site. Dennikthat Fico had left the building to greet people who had gathered to see him before “several shots were fired.”
Fico then reportedly fell to the ground.
The alleged attacker was detained by police at the scene, who then cordoned off the area and the House of Culture was evacuated.
