The shocking moment 'Skate Park Karen' refuses to move out of the way despite a scooter rider's kind requests

Footage of a mother refusing to get out of the way of skateboarders and scooter riders has caused a stir online.

The video was taken by avid cyclist ScooterBrad, at what is believed to be the Gordon Spratt Reserve Skate Park in Pāpāmoa on New Zealand’s North Island.

He approached the woman, who was in the middle of the park talking to another woman, and asked her and her children to move aside.

The footage shows the scooter rider waiting at the top of a ramp before saying: “If they don’t have wheels, they shouldn’t be in the skatepark.”

She then asked them to move aside, before the mother responded by saying the children were “just running around”.

She explained that “they couldn’t get to our scooter or our skateboard,” before telling Brad to “leave us alone.”

Worried that the children might be accidentally hit by a cyclist, Brad again asked the mother to obey park rules and move to a nearby grassy area.

“We’re leaving now,” the woman is heard saying.

She then continued to stand in the middle of the skate park, further frustrating the scooter driver.

The mother’s half-hearted attempt to leave the park prompted Brad to scold her for not heeding warnings.

“Come on, you’re the adult, come on, it’s for your protection and theirs,” Brad said in the TikTok video.

‘You can walk through the park, you can walk along the paths where your feet pass, this is a sports complex on wheels.

“You just need to take some responsibility.”

The video attracted thousands of comments from viewers who were shocked by the mother’s actions at the skate park.

“Why is it so hard for people to say ‘oops, sorry’ and just move on?” one wrote.

A second said the danger was “equivalent to standing in the middle of a road.”

Others praised Brad for trying to be calm with ‘Karen’ while telling her about the dangers.

“The guy is out here gently looking after Karen at the skate park,” one viewer wrote.

Another added: “You were literally very polite, but a Karen has to be a Karen.”
