Officials in Canada announced on Tuesday that the search for a German pop star who went overboard on a ship of Aida Cruises over the weekend has been canceled.
Canadian Joint Task Force Atlantic said in a statement that rescue teams stopped their search on Monday because of the "short survival time" in water temperature this time of year, reports KTLA.
The incident has been transferred to the Newfoundland Police Department as a case of missing persons.
The Canadian Coast Guard conducted an extensive air and water search for Daniel Kueblboeck, 33, after disappearing around 6 am on a ship from Aida Cruises.
Witnesses aboard the ship reported seeing Kueblboeck jump overboard from the fifth platform of AIDAAluna. The ship was near Newfoundland when the incident occurred.
The ship returned immediately after the reports arrived and the helicopters of the coast guard began to look for it.
"The rescue workers had been deployed in the Labrador Sea at all times," Aida Cruises said in a statement. "Unfortunately, the search did not succeed."
